A SIGN OF GRATITUDE

OUR WAY to say Thank You, Harry.

ON A SPECIAL MISSION

Over a decade ago, Committee President David Merlini founded The House of Houdini in Budapest as a permanent tribute. Today, As part of HOUDINI100™, we are planning something truly special.

A Harry Houdini bronze relief will be installed as the closing act of the commemoration on the wall of Origo Film Studios. Here, Harry will join the prestigious company of some of the most famous Hungarians in the film industry, such as Béla Lugosi, Adolph Zukor, and Zsa Zsa Gabor.”

SOMETHING IN THE WORKS

The Houdini100™ Organizational Committee wishes to use this special anniversary to lay the groundwork for a long‑overdue gesture of grace. Harry Houdini was born in Budapest in 1874 at Rákosárok utca  1. The street, later renamed Csengery, is a major thoroughfare in the city centre. Although many have long assumed that Csengery  1 is the original birthplace, research conducted in 2016 by the House of Houdini’s librarian unit revealed that a severe flood prompted a revised city map, causing the original Rákosárok  1 address to be displaced from Csengery  1. Our current proposal seeks to rename the final block of Csengery Street as

Harry Houdini Street.

The Centennial Statue in Budapest

Where Magic Never Ends

A project that took shape years ago, this statue portraying Harry Houdini in his most famed escape, The Water Torture Cell, is a unique piece of art. The glass walls originally shaping the device will be replaced by streams of water, resembling the imaginary boundaries of his confinement. This one-of-a-kind installation will be uniquely presented in Budapest, the city of his birth. The unveiling is set to match The Grand Houdini Centenarium; news coming soon.
